Why Volunteer at the Miramar Police Department?

Are background/security checks required to volunteer at the Miramar Police Department?
We will screen volunteers very thoroughly. You will be asked to provide necessary background information and to sign a release form to allow a criminal background check.

Will the Miramar Police Department be able to use my skills and expertise?
The Miramar Police Department looks for a variety of skills. When you apply, you will be screened and interviewed by the agency to determine your skills, talents, and knowledge. A volunteer coordinator will then try to match your skills to an appropriate assignment.

What kinds of assignments are appropriate for volunteers?
Assignments are determined by the needs of the police department. Volunteers are used to supplement and support the work of sworn officers and civilian personnel.

Do I have to volunteer a certain number of hours per day, week, and year?
You will work out a schedule of volunteer hours that is acceptable to both the Miramar Police Department and yourself.
